During carnival something strange happened, all the squadrons pilots suddenly disappeared. At the same time fortunately some sheiks showed up and they agreed to take over the missing pilots tasks. But before they were able to do so, they had to do some familiarization with employees and units at Vogler airbase.

In June 2008 our squadron took part in the yearly international exercise of the Nato Tiger Association (for the first time!). The host nation this year was the French squadron Flottile 11F based in Landivisiau near Brest.
After weeks of preparation we (6 pilots and 2 technicians) took off with our aircraft on the 20th of June. We arrived Friday afternoon in France after 2 intermediate stops at Innsbruck and Orleans. Our container which was delivered by a transportation company had already arrived. So we used Friday to set up our ops room. In the evening we drove to Brest to our hotel. Saturday we went to do some sightseeing around Brest and spent a comfortable evening with the Belgium delegation. Sunday the rest of the participants arrived and thereafter the opening ceremony took place. During that event we met a lot of well known fellow tigers and either new ones.

For the first time during this year we sent two aircraft to an airshow. The base we have been invited to visit was Bodo in Norway. First this is an interesting destination because of its quite unique position north of the polar circle and second it’s challenging because of the distance to cover from Austria. We finally came up with a plan that took us to Bodo doing three intermediate stops LAAGE/GER SANDEFJORD/NOR and TRONDHEIM/NOR. For our journey back to LINZ we have been able to skip the stop in TRONDHEIM. After a total of 4 flying hours we have been cleared to descend overhead Bodo.
